My personal and professional background has helped prepare me to serve on the Shaker School Board. In my different professional roles, I’ve seen the heights young people can reach when our educational systems succeed, and the depths they can fall to when these
systems fail. I have been a Shaker student, a Shaker parent, the spouse of a Shaker teacher at one time, and a volunteer both at my children’s schools and on District committees. I believe the combination of these unique perspectives will allow me to better represent the diverse points of view of Shaker residents. In volunteer positions, such as serving on the Board of Directors of the Cleveland Rape Crisis Center and as the General Counsel for the Olivet Housing and Community Development Corporation, I’ve learned how a Board can govern, and most importantly, how it can lead.
The Shaker Schools are built around a promise of excellence and opportunity for all of its students. Two generations of my family took Shaker up on this promise and Shaker didn’t let us down. I’m running to help keep Shaker’s promise for all of us. To do this, we have to meet and exceed Shaker’s high expectations for academic excellence and a rigorous curriculum. At the same time, we need to find and reconnect any students who have become disengaged. To ensure we have the fiscal resources for the job, we need to manage our educational investments responsibly, avoid redundancies, and maximize the returns we receive from them. And we have to engage our entire community in this effort, communicating regularly and clearly, and building ongoing partnerships and collaborations.
